Wyclef to run for President of Haiti

Wyclef Jean is officially running for President of Haiti. Wyclef was originally born in Haiti but moved to Brooklyn when he was 9. To be able to run for President, Wyclef will need to prove he can meet Haiti’s citizenship as well as property requirement. This will be a challenge for Wyclef seeing as he has lived in the U.S. for the past 30 years and Haiti’s Presidential requirement states that the candidate must have lived in Haiti for 5 years previous to running for President.  Also running for President is Haiti’s former U.S. Ambassador Raymond Joseph who is coincidently Wyclef’s Uncle. All candidates will need to declare by this Saturday.

Kanye debuts new song at the Facebook offices.

Kanye West is definitely all sorts of social media now. After being on twitter for only a few days he already has close to 300k fans.

Rolling Stone reports:

“Many times in life I’ve had to deal with moments of doubt. And as it’s been a minute since I’ve performed any fresh material in front of an audience, this could’ve been one of those moments… but it wasn’t,” West wrote on his blog in a letter addressed to the Facebook crew. “Your energy was a gift so electric, so genuine, that it really helped me give my best. The energy was so inspiring I had to keep going! I just hope you got as much from me as I got from you… which was everything! Love to all my fans, especially at Facebook.”

Girl Talk

You have to admire artists that can bring the heat on a studio album AND get a crowd rocking like it’s business as usual. Pittsburgh artist Gregg Gillis, better known by his stage name Girl Talk, does both effortlessly.

Girl Talk is known for his mashup style where he takes a dozen or more tracks and sound clips and merges them together into one track. Over the years his style and music has stirred up a lot of controversy and debate about the difference between borrowing and altering copyrighted material to make it a completely unique piece, and stealing copyrighted tracks. The New York Times has claimed his music is a “lawsuit waiting to happen.” The excerpt below from the “Good Copy / Bad Copy” documentary is pretty interesting and shows a little bit of his controversial process.

Girl Talk has mostly been known in the underground scene until he dropped “Night Ripper” in 2006 and started getting a lot of mainstream exposure. In a not-typical record release, Girl Talk actually released Night Ripper by letting customers choose what price they were willing to pay for the album and then downloading it. He now releases all of his albums this way including the release of “Feed the Animals” in 2008. (which had over 300 songs in a total of 50 minutes)

While his tracks are rad by themselves, the best way to get the full experience is to hit a live show. Because of all the audience involvement, his shows feel more like a raging party than a concert. The stages are usually packed with people, there are toilet paper guns, giant balloons full of confetti, mosh pits and plenty of crowd surfing crowd rafting.

Check some of his tracks on his Myspace and see what all the hype is about. Also, don’t forget to check the photos from his latest Salt Lake City Concert on our company blog.

Kanye West ft Lil Wayne – “Barry Bonds” (Ritchcraft Remix)

This song is crazy-fresh!! “Barry Bonds” was already a great song, I mean c’mon, Kanye’s producing capabilities are nowhere near sub-par…they’re incredible. But Ritchcraft one-upped the original with a funk-rock remix beat. It’s so squeaky-clean new, hype machine couldn’t find it. Enjoy!

Recent Colab between Kid Cudi, Rostam Batmanglij & Bethany Cosentino

Converse recently rallied up with Kid Cudi, Vampire Weekend’s own Rostam Batmanglij and Bethany Cosentino to combine forces and create a song together. The track is called “All Summer” and it will blow your mind with the infused sounds of each artist. Make sure to hook up your Siege Audio “Elevens” for the quality sound your ears are begging for. Check it out at pigeonsandplanes.com or Converse’s website to view a unique video profile of each artist.

Prince doesn’t seem too fond of the internet.

According to LifeLounge, Prince recently stated that his new album will not be available anywhere on the web OR in digital format because he feels like the internet is just a fad. ” The internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers, and that can’t be good for you.”

Below, there is a rare opportunity for you to watch a video taken at one of his most recent concerts. This video will definitely not be up long due to Prince and his team getting real agro on anyone posting video or music of his. He actually once sued a mother who had put a video of her child dancing on YouTube because the child was dancing to a prince song.

Thank goodness for the 80′s. Tears for fears has sold over 22 million albums and this was their ninth single. I actually forgot how sick this track is until THIS reminded me a few years ago.

New NERD Song – “Help Me”

In a Yaheard exclusive, NERD dropped a new – never been heard – track called “Help Me.” This is a track from their album dropping this September. Apparently, in addition to changing labels, they are also changing their sound up. New album should be a banger.
